Everglades Rod & Gun Club

The Rod and Gun Lodge, located on highway 29, four miles south of highway 41, serves as the western gateway to the Everglades National Park.

Everglades City, with a history dating back over 1,000 years, is the location where the Rod and Gun Club stands. The club itself is built on the original structure of the first permanent white settler who founded Everglades City in 1864. In 1922, Barron G. Collier, a banker and railroad man, acquired most of Southwest Florida, including the Rod and Gun Club, which he operated as a private club. The club has been visited by international dignitaries and several United States presidents.

The Bowen family from Michigan purchased the club in 1972 and continues to operate it today. Over the years, the club has hosted various celebrity guests, including Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Hoover, and Nixon. Notable visitors also include John Wayne, Ernest Hemingway, Burl Ives, Gypsy Rose Lee, Kate Jackson, Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, David Carradine, Roy Clark, Mel Tillis, Eddie Arnold, Jack Nicklaus, Sean Connery, Danny Glover, Joe Pesci, Peter Jennings, Phil Donahue, and Marlo Thomas, among others.

The Rod and Gun Lodge is 36 miles south of Naples, 85 miles west of Miami, and just 90 minutes from either the Miami International or Southwest Florida International Airports.
